MSDE 2000 Installation How-To (continued)
Where's the GUI?
MSDE doesn't come with a graphical user interface, only a command-line
tool called OSQL.exe. But don't despair! There are a number of free GUI's
to try out. Here are a couple to start with:
SQL ExecMS |
|
This
is currently my favorite... you can run queries, set up users,
create databases, and more. Version 1.5.3.4 is free for non-commercial
use, or you can contact the author for commercial use pricing.
Version
2 is loaded with more features, cost is ~$60 for a personal
license. |

MSDE Query |
|
Great graphical query tool, also free. If you like what you see
with this one you can spend a very reasonable $19 and get a full-blown
tool with backup/restore, attaching/detaching databases, and other
utilities. |

| WinSQL Lite |
|
Another free graphical query tool. You can upgrade to the full
WinSQL for more functionality. |

| ASP.Net Enterprise Manager |
|
Interesting browser-based tool that runs within ASP.Net. |
